February 23rd-27th

Monday, February 23rd

We are entering into the part in Latin American history when many of the countries were gaining their independence from the European country that colonized them.  We watched a video stream about Mexico and their journey through being conquered and then liberated.  We then watched a brain pop about Simon Bolivar.

HW - Current event due Friday!!!  Turn in early for a super star!!!

Tuesday, February 24th

We learned about Miguel Hidalgo and Toussaint L'Ouverture and took notes about them on a graphic organizer.

Wednesday, February 25th

We will learn about Simon Bolivar and take notes on him.  We will then review all of the graphic organizers.

Today we talked about our upcoming test the kids will have on Thursday.  We reviewed our vocab with a power point.    Download Latin America Powerpoint with map   We then started on our study guide.

We created invitations to the end of the 5 nothing days celebrations using Aztec, Maya and student created hieroglyphics :)

HW - If you did not complete your rough draft in class, please have it ready on Monday.  Final very creative complete invitations will earn the students a reward!!!

We summarized the  Ask the Aztecs sheet, we then played a game with sentence strips to reinforce the material.

Tuesday, February 10th

We read an account of the Aztecs.  We then completed a crossword puzzle and answered some questions about Incan cities. 

HW - make sure all of the tasks from today are completed by Thursday if you didn't finish in class!!!

Wednesday, February 11th

The majority of the 6th grade was on a field trip today.  Kids in class worked on their assignments from yesterday, missing assignments, and./or played on Sheppardsoftware to study the various locations of the countries we have studied this year.

We reviewed our Incan cities w/s's.  We then read about and created our own Aztec calendars.

Friday, February 13th

We watched a video stream about what life is like living in a village on the Amazon river.  When time permitted in some classes, we watched a short video about the various animal life in the Amazon rainforest.

February 2nd-6th

We took our Latin American map test today, the kiddos will get them back tomorrow!!!

The classes with a little time left over viewed a brief power point showing some more visuals of some of Latin American Physical Features.  Attached is the power point, if the students answer the following questions from the power point, they can earn a super star...  Download Latin America Physical Powerpoint

Tuesday, February 3rd

We discussed our map tests we took yesterday.  There were a lot of great grades, but remember if you are not happy with your grade or just want to try for a few more extra points, you can retake the test and I will meet you in the middle :)  See me for retake appointment times.

We read Ch. 6 section 1 and worked on the section assessment

HW - complete the section assessment if not finished in class :)  IT IS FOR A GRADE :):):)

Wednesday, February 4th

We reviewed the answers to the section assessment and then started our vocab for the history of Latin America. 

HW - complete the key term blocks for the following terms... Aztecs, Cortes, Pizarro, Columbian Exchange, Incas, Montezuma, Atahualpa, **Indigenous :)

Thursday, February 5th

We turned in our key term blocks and completed an anticipation guide. We read ch. 6 section 2 and completed a guided reading.

HW - correct anticipation guide, we will grade it tomorrow :)

Friday, February 6th

We turned in our anticipation guides to be graded.  We completed a journal 3 - 2 - 1.  We watched a video stream about the conquest of the Americas and took 10 main idea notes from the video.
