We labeled the following physical features of Europe......Danube river, Rhine river, English Channel, Mediterranean Sea, Northern European Plain, the Alps, Pyrenees, Ural mountains, Iberian Peninsula, Scandinavian peninsula, Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Volga river

HW - complete the physical map and political map if not already

We reviewed our map skills of Europe with European scavengar hunt.

We reviewed for our upcoming European political map quiz playing the on line helpful game at  http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/European_Geography.htm

HW - bring a newspaper article from a newspaper or you can print one from an on line newspaper - this is for current event practice :)

Friday, August 29th

We practiced how to do a current event.  They are due monthly :)

HW - complete the mock current event by Thursday that we began in class today and enjoy your three day weekend :)

August 18th-22nd

Monday, August 18th

Today we began reviewing latitude and longitude.  We took down some notes from a power point and began to practice.  We will continue to practice tomorrow :)

HW - Your courageous journey to... paragraph will be due on Wed :)

ATTENTION PARENTS!!!!!!

Tomorrow is your kiddo's open house.  It begins at 6:30 in the theatre where you will get some info from our principal Jeff Crawford and meet the other administration.  After that you will head to your kiddo's homeroom and will receive a copy of their schedule.  The parents will get to enjoy a brief tour of your kid's schedules and get the opportunity to hear about what will be taught in each his/her classes :)

We continued to review latitude and longitude.

Wednesday, August 20th

We reviewed the five themes today and some map skills.

HW - We reviewed today using a match em up w/s and a map w/s.  Most students finished in class, however I asked them to finish it at home if not.  It will be checked for a classwork completion grade tomorrow and then we will review it together for accuracy :)

Thursday, August 21st

Today, we took a pre test and issued books. The books can stay at home until the end of the year, we are fortunate enough to have a class set to use :):):)

Friday, August 22nd

We completed our journal 3 - 2 - 1.  We then reviewed the match em up w/s.  We are now ready for Europe.  To preview European Geography, we watched a video stream that took the kids visually through many of the important physical features of Europe that they will need to know. 

HW - none - some homework will be coming next week a day or two :)

Draw/trace a map of Europe and label it with all of its countries!!!!! Make sure your map is current as over the past several years, many countries in Eastern Europe have changed.

August 11th-15th

Monday, August 11th

Today was a great first day!!!  We reviewed expectations of our class as well as classroom procedures.  We also took a visual tour of the areas of the world we will be studying this year.  Each student will need a composition notebook for their Journal 3 - 2 - 1 activity :)

HW - Please bring in Journal 3 -2 - 1 composition notebook by Friday - this will be left in the room for this school year and you will also be able to use the same one for my literacy class :)

Tuesday, August 12th

The students will have their first Daily Social studies.

The students will get to know eachother through Global Bingo.

We will start our Social Studies table of contents so the kids can learn how to organize their notebooks.

Wednesday, August 13th

We started on our mini geography unit with the 5 themes of Geography.  The students broke into groups to become experts on one of the 5 themes and tomorrow they will teach their classmates all about their theme.

We finished up our 5 themes posters and presented them to the class.

Friday, August 15th

We reviewed the 5 themes with a power point and we took some notes.

SUPER STAR LATITUTDE AND LONGITUDE PRACTICE OPPORTUNITY!!!!!!!!!!

ON MONDAY, we will learn/review how to find latitude and longitude cooridinates, click on the links below to practice and/or review how to find latitude and longitude.  Complete the practice on your own paper and bring in on Monday for a super star, you must have at least 80% accuracy :)

WELCOME NEW 6TH GRADERS :)

My name is Marnie Ross and I will be your childs World Geography teacher!!!  I am very excited about the new school year and helping your kiddo transition into this new grade :) 

In 6th grade we travel through so many amazing places in the classroom.  We start in Europe and Russia, then take off for Latin America.  We then will head north and learn about Canada.  The students and I will finish up the year in Australia and Oceania.

If you have any questions, please email me any time at Marnie.Ross@cobbk12.org. Also parents, I-Parent is a great way to check on your students progress throughout the year.  If you don't have access to I-Parent, you have to come in to get the info and passwords, just go to the front office and they can help you with that :)
