March 31st-April 4th

Monday, March 31st

We started Oceania today.  We labeled a physical and political map of Australia.

HW - make sure your maps are completely labeled.  We will label a map of the remainder of the places and things we need to know about Oceania tomorrow.  On Thursday students will be given a condensed list of the major places and physical features that must be known for their quiz they will have the Wednesday after Spring Break :)

Tuesday, April 1st

The students labeled a map of Oceania.  They then began to read Ch. 25 section 1 and complete review questions 1-4.  If they completed this, they started on key term blocks for the following words...Maori, Aborigine,

Commonwealth of Nations

matrilineal societies, patrilineal societies

HW - FOR THURSDAY - ALL OF THE ABOVE WORK MUST BE COMPLETED!!!

FIELD TRIP TOMORROW - ANNOUNCEMENT

If you are going on the field trip, you must be here by 7:50!!!  Go to the bus port!  If you have any questions email me, I will check my email by 9pm tonight and respond then to any questions!!!

Monday March 24th

We reviewed the government of Canada.  We then began to learn about the economy of Canada.  Students filled out a guided reading as they read Ch. 5 section 3.  We reviewed the answers before the end of class.

HW - current events due next Monday, students can turn them in early if they like :)

Tuesday, March 25th

We reviewed the government of Canada and the economy of Canada with two video streams.  The students took notes on each video.

Wednesday, March 26th

We will finish up this portion of our Canada study by learning about their culture.  We will read Ch. 5 section 4 and fill out a chart.

We will then begin our study guide.

HW - complete study guide - only students who have a completed study guide will get to participate in the review game, the others will have to do reviews out of the book.   Test - Friday Current event due - Monday

Thursday, March 27th

We reviewed the answers to the study guide.  We then reviewed further for our test tomorrow!!!  STUDY study guide and be prepared to answer BOTH essay questions!!!!

Students will take the Canada test.

March 17th-21st

Monday, March 17th

We reviewed both maps of Canada.  They will have a quiz over them on Wednesday.  We took a pretest over the remaining info from this year. We then skimmed Ch. 3 section 1 and 2 and had to answer 5 questions over the information.

1. How far do the Rocky Mountains stretch?

2. What is the Canadian Shield?

3. What is the longest river in Canada?

4. What vegetations zones are found in Canada?

5. What natural resources are found in Canada?

The answers are found in Chapter 3 Sections 1 & 2.

Tuesday, March 18th

We will review the answers to the 5 questions above.  We will then view an over view of Canada through the power point below and complete a set of notes that go along with the power point.

Wednsday, March 19th

We reviewed the power point, then we reviewed for our map quiz.  We then took our map quiz and started a guided reading worksheet over the first immigrants to Canada.

Thursday, March 20th

We reviewed the guided reading from yesterday.  We spent the rest of the class working on 12 key term blocks.  This are preview for the next few classes.

HW- Key Term Blocks for Ch. 5 section 2-4 are due on Monday.

We read about the government of Canada and completed a guided reading.

****Art show the same night as Academic night - please read info below

Awtrey's 2nd Art Show will take place from 6-8 pm Thursday, March 13th featuring over 300 Framed works of Art.

The art show is an opportunity to support our Art Program by raising funds and recognizing the hard work students produce throughout the year. The artwork is professionally framed for the show. If parents wish to have the frame for their student's artwork, they may purchase the frames on the 13th (or through the website included on the individual invitation each student will recieve). All art purchased at the show is available to be taken that evening and put on display in your home. So, get the hammer out and find a good spot to hang your own student's personal masterpiece! Reproductions of art can also be purchased at a discount fprice and donated to the school's permanent collection.

We took an economics quiz and then began a mini in class project.  It is called "What Economics means to me."  The students worked on the rough draft of the paragraphs today.  We will work on it Tuesday and Wednesday in class as well.

We turned in our projects and discussed some of the terms they used and how they related to their lives.  We then began our tour of Canada with a 20 minute video stream of the Geography of Canada.

We reviewed 20th century Latin America by going over the "Good, the bad, and the ugly" sheet about Peru's government and a power point over key topics.

SUPER STAR QUESTION OF THE DAY!!!!

We learned in "The good, the bad and the ugly" about Peru's government from the 1980's until 2000.  It made mention of Fujimori resigning, but did not talk about who is the current president of Peru and what his hopes are to help clean up the country of Peru. So.... the super star question is....

Who is the current president of Peru and what are his plans to improve Peru's government and overall situation as a country???

We finished up the power points and completed our notes, we then reviewed and set up in groups for our activity tomorrow.

We did an economic activity where the kids learned in more detail about the three main economic systems through making jewelry :)

We debriefed on our economic systems activity.  We then watched a short video to reinforce the factors of production and completed a sheet to help better understand this info.
