This Saturday, February 2nd is Awtrey's Cultural Extravaganza. It will be held in the cafeteria from 10-2. Come on out and learn lots about the varying cultures of the different countries of the world!!!
Students who attend can earn a bonus % point on their 3rd nine weeks Social Studies grades!!!!!!!!!
Monday, January 28th
We began our next unit on Central America and the Caribbean with a brief look into what life is like today in Central America.
HW - Current event is due on Thursday, January 31st. Students can turn in anytime from now through Thursday.
Tuesday, January 29th
We reviewed the locations of the countries of Central America and the Caribbean. We discussed briefly using page 200 in the book what we would be learning about over the next couple weeks. We started our key term blocks for Ch. 8 sections 1 and 2. There are 8 total, 5 on page 203 and 3 on page 208.

Wednesday, January 30th
We reviewed our key term blocks. We SQ3R'd Ch. 8 section 1, then read it and completed a guided reading.

Thrusday, January 31st
We reviewed our guided reading and then completed the other side, making inferences.

Friday, February 1st
We reviewed making inferences and then we took the quiz and graded it in class. We discussed Cultural Extravaganza tomorrow. On top of the one bonus percentage point, they will also earn a super star.

Tuesday, January 22nd
We started our study guide in class for our tests on Thursday and Friday. If the students can master all the information on the study guide, they will be successful on the test :):):)

We reviewed the guided reading and discussed some study strategies. We began our key term index cards for the 7 terms for Ch. 7 section 3. Term on one side, definition on other - these are a GREAT study tool for ALL classes!!!

Wednesday, January 16th
We took a mock writing test in homeroom that lasted through 2nd period. In 3rd and 4th period we watched 2 20 minute videos over Mexico's culture and heritage. They were great review for the test that they will be having Thursday and Friday of next week.

We read ch. 7 section 3 about Mexico's economy and completed a chart.

Tuesday, January 8th
We spent some time talking about the new 9 weeks and set some goals! Ask your kiddo to show you what their goal grade is for this 9 weeks :)
We then reviewed notebook procedures. They can clean out old stuff, I encourage them not to throw out stuff right away, but to keep all their papers in a folder somewhere safe. They can keep this in a cabinet in our classroom if they like.
We reviewed key term block procedures and then started on them for Ch. 7 section 1

We reviewed briefly what we have already learned about the early history of Latin America. We then reviewed our key term blocks. We read ch. 7 section 1 and completed a guided reading.

We reviewed the guided reading and then took our quiz over Ch. 7 section 1. We then began working on KTB for ch. 7 section 2

We had a guest speaker today :) Our guest speaker was Mrs. Hart's son, Mr. Jacob Hart. He is a Sonar Tech for the United States Navy. He has traveled to many different parts of the world!
