WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22

MONDAY

Warm-up:  The Pyramid of Life. Info: a food energy pyramid is a way to show the flow of energy through an ecosystem. Starting at the base of the pyramid and moving towar the top, energy is lost and the number of organisms in each population becomes smaller.

Word bank:

producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers (also referred to as third level consumers.

TUESDAY

Begin work with partners on Galapogos Marine Organisms Food Web: Develop a color key with one color for the organism eaten and another color for the organism doing the eating. Read paragraphs about the marine organisms and color key.

WEDNESDAY

Warm-up: Chains of Life Crossword using vocabulary terms:  producer, consumer, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, decomposer, food chain, food web, energy pyramid, scavenger.

Scavenger:   an animal that eats the remains of dead animals.

Students continue work on constructing the Food Web with their partner. Cut the parargraphs about each organism and make a food web using the information.

THURSDAY;   Hand our Tropic Lvbels

A food web is a complex network of feeding relationships.  Each step in a food web is called a trophic level.  Producers  are the first trophic level.

Students with partners complete their food web.

FRIDAY:

Test on Food Chains and Food Webs (more in depth on concepts)

Students Identify looking at a food web: producers, first level consumers, second level consumers, third level consumers.  Students can construct a food web when given a list of organisms. Arrows are pointed in correct direction.
