WEEK OF 3/2

Images  Would you like to help out on Awtrey's Academic Night?  I need a few volunteers to help discuss activities that we have done for the various units.  I have all of the work, you would just help me set up some displays and explain what we did to any interested parents.  This is a great opportunity for all of you natural born speakers!!

Academic Night is March 12th, next Thursday.

MONDAY

I still need some deficiency reports returned with a parent signature.

I am done grading all tests; check out iParent to see your grade.  Tests will be returned when all absentees have made up  the test.

Advisement returns today

In class we will read 22.1 and complete the section review #1-9; this is homework if not finished in class.

TUESDAY

I will check last nights homework.

We will do the Math Focus p. 634 in class.  It is homework if not completed in class.

WEDNESDAY

We will work through diagraming a handout of the electromagnetic spectrum today.

Absentees: Review the electromagnetic spectrum and make note of how the wavelength changes as frequence changes.  also, be sure to notice the order of the type of waves and how they represent different energies.  You will have to copy someone's paper when you return.

THURSDAY-FRIDAY:  I am not here on these two days.  I will appreciate good behavior for the sub.  You will have some work to do during class on Friday, and some video questions on Thursday.  Be sure to hand in any COMPLETED work to the drawer since I will pick it up on Saturday.

FRIDAY'S CLASS WORK: SECTION 22.2 REVIEW, #1-12, AND THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE EM SPECTRUM WORKSHEET.

TEST FRIDAY OVER WAVE PROPERTIES AND VOCABULARY

MONDAY

Some students will participate in reteaching of major concepts not mastered in the energy unit. They will do the following vocabulary definitions as homework:

  • Longitudinal wave
  • Surface wave
  • Medium Wave
  • Mechanical wave
  • Compression
  • Rarefaction
  • Transverse wave
  • Electromagnetic wave
  • Crest
  • Trough
  • Wavelength
  • Frequency
  • Wave speed
  • Amplitude

Students who mastered the energy content, based on test scores, will have class time to work on vocabulary definitions; however, all are due tomorrow.  That means what they don't finish in class is homework!

TUESDAY

Students viewed websites and took notes on wave properties.Download Wave website worksheet 1

Please turn in any late flip books by tomorrow.  Review all vocabulary and class notes.

WEDNESDAY

Calculations from the book for wave speed, frequency, and wavelength.  Math Focus page, 582 done in class-review at home.

TO HONOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH, YOU MAY RESEARCH A BLACK SCIENTIST, BRING IN A BRIEF WRITE UP, INCLUDING SOME BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION AND WHAT HE/SHE CONTRIBUTED TO SCIENCE.  PRESENT IT TO THE CLASS (IT SHOULD BE ONLY ONE TO TWO MINUTES WORTH OF INFORMATION).  I'LL REPLACE A FORMATIVE GRADE WITH A 100%!!!!!  WHAT A DEAL!!

Absentees this week should work on their flip books, and preparation for the test on Friday.  Thursday we will have a presentation from NCHS counselors.

TUESDAY

PROGRESS REPORTS WENT HOME TODAY.  PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

We completed the notes for the flip book.  They had a few minutes to work on their books.

WEDNESDAY  They will have some time to work on mechanical energy in their flip books.

*************** ;) See test preview on Friday's blog.

We will  also review for Friday's test.  It will cover all material given from the two power points, as well as any information in their flip books.  Flip books are due Friday when they take the test.

TEST TODAY OVER ENERGY-

TEST PREVIEW: You may want to think about the essay question while you are studying!!  You will be asked to explain two transfers of energy; therefore you will have to include the initial energy, a transfer to a second type of energy, and finally the last transfer to a third type of energy.  Remember one of your standards for physical science is to be able to explain how energy transfers from one form to another.
