WEEK OF APRIL 28, PLUS A FEW DAYS

MONDAY

Science CRCT!! Good luck students!

Doppler Effect demo and worksheet in class.  Completed worksheet can be used on the open note quiz tomorrow.

TUESDAY

As stated in last week's blog, they will have an open note quiz today.   There is nothing to study for.  I am basically asking questions from classwork items, which they are allowed to use on the quiz.  If they did their work in class they will be able to get a 100 on the quiz.  PLEASE BE SURE TO BRING YOUR NOTES, WORKSHEET, AND GRAPHS TO CLASS TODAY TO USE ON THE QUIZ.

PROJECT SHEET WILL GO HOME TODAY

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY

Wave research in the Media Center.  The project handout will be on the "studrive" here at the school and it includes all information, as well as many internet links that would be useful.  The Media Center will also provide a cart of books and a list of sources for the students to use.  I want them to research a type of wave, either sound or electromagnetic, that we, or other living things depend on.  Examples are: echolocation, electronic devices, applications of  Doppler Effect.  A project sheet was sent home yesterday so students could begin thinking about what they may want to do.

FRIDAY

Finalize your presentation in class.  Presentations will be on Monday only.  You will have 5 minutes, so be concise, informative, and READY.

MONDAY

Wave research presentations

TUESDAY

Benchmark for waves.  This benchmark will include properties of waves, electromagnetic waves, and sound waves.

TESTING WEEK 4/23-4/29

Greetings,

While teachers have been asked not to give homework during testing week (I rarely give homework anyway), students still need to be productive during class time.  We will meet with all classes for about 25 minutes each day.  During this time it is important that students use their time wisely in order to complete the appropriate amount of work during class.  The following is the planned schedule of activities for testing days.  If students do not do any work in class, they will still be held accountable for what was expected of them.

Today/Wednesday-Two graphs were due at the end of class.  Graphs were explained on Tuesday and they had the rest of the class period plus today's class period to work on them.

Thursday-I have asked the Awtrey music students to bring their instrument to class to demonstrate and explain how they change the pitch (frequency) of the sound wave.  Some students offered to show us how they tune their instrument.  All students will draw a simple wave to show how frequency changes between high pitch and low pitch sounds.

Friday-I will connect frequency/pitch to the Doppler Effect.  I'll demonstrate with a buzzer.  At a later date they will get to throw a football "loaded" with a buzzer in order to hear the Doppler effect.

Monday-Doppler/decibel worksheet; we will complete together in class.

Tuesday-Open note quiz using all of their classwork.  The quiz will refer to specific questions from their worksheet/notes/graph.  There is NOTHING to study for-it is simply getting information from work that was supposed to have been completed in class.  If they do their work in class, they will get a 100 on the quiz!

THURSDAY 4/17-FRIDAY 4/18

THURSDAY

Today we will go over the eye diagram that they should be working on.  Hint: Since I'm going over it in class there should be NO reason for anyone to turn in an incomplete illustration tomorrow, when they are due.  I'll show them the structures that they are responsible for using a 3-D model of the eyeball and discuss the function of each structure.  We are also practicing for the CRCT with a partner in class.

Check out this website to help preview for the quiz http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/body/eye_noSW_p2.html

FRIDAY

QUIZ over the structures and functions of the eyeball.  Their eyeball illustrations are due.  We will also begin a new chapter in the workbook.  There should be no homework, unless they don't finish their workbook pages for 16.1, Sound (Please DO NOT complete these pages prior to class on  Friday).

April 14, 2008

Monday 4/14

We watched the beginning of a video on how the eyeball sees.  Students who were on the field trip Thursday and Friday took their make up test on visible light.

Please remember to bring your CRCT Practice Workbook to class EVERY day.  We are using it to review for testing, which begins next Wednesday.

STUDY GUIDE FOR VISIBLE LIGHT TEST

For those of you who are absent, here is a copy of the study guide for Thursday's test.  You need to plan on taking it Thursday since Friday is the last day before Spring Break.  Please complete the study guide before Wednesday so that we can review properly tomorrow. The competed study guide will be checked for a grade.
