We're off to a great start!

Science news for parents:  All students received a science textbook and workbook today.  They will need to bring them to class everyday from now on.  Also, students took a measurement quiz today.  Any students who did not make a 100 on it will re-take the quiz every Friday until they do so! 

Here's the plan for next week:

Monday:
1.  We'll check the textbook scavenger hunt
2.  Scientific Method Notes/Graphic organizer

Tuesday:
1.  Pre-test over minerals and rocks
2.  Vocabulary Illustrations for Minerals

Wednesday:
1.  Compare/Contrast Paragraph with venn diagram over minerals
2.  Finish vocabulary illustration

Thursday:
1.  Properties of Minerals - Notes

Friday:
1.  Mineral Density Lab
2.  Measurement quiz (for those who need it)

Welcome 6th Graders!!

Welcome to Mrs. Emmett's Earth Science Class!  This year we will be studying about geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy.  Get ready for some exciting labs and group activities!

Important Parent Information
Each student will receive a science textbook and workbook this year.  All students will be expected to bring them to class daily.

On the first day of school, your child will receive a syllabus and lab safety contract.  Please sign these and return them as soon as possible.  Thanks!

Here's the schedule for the first week of school:

Monday:
1.  Review rules and procedures
2.  Review the lab safety contract and syllabus
3.  Begin brainstorming activity: What is earth science??

Tuesday:
1.  Finish brainstorming activity
2.  Introduction to the 4 branches of earth science

Wednesday:
1.  Students will work on a collage of the branches of earth science
**This will be finished as homework...DUE FRIDAY.**

Thursday:
1.  Scientific Method/Measurement Pre test
2.  Begin measurement notes

Friday:
1.  Finish measurement notes
2.  Begin measurement mind map (to be finished on Monday)
