Students were issued 4 1/2 week PROGRESS REPORTS today.  Students earning a D or F in a class also received a PRINT OUT.

Progress Reports need to be signed and returned by Friday, Nov. 20!

Standard:  ELA8W2 Technical Writing
Essential Questions:
How do I create a document with text and images while following an organized structure?

Learning Goals:
Students will follow an organized structure to produce various types of technical writing (website, newsletter, manual, public service announcement). 
Students work for TEENS 4 GREEN in departments (groups) to complete technical writing products around the topic of BEING GREEN.

All of the groups are working hard to get their assignments done by Friday, 11/20.
NO HOMEWORK has been given this week and there is NO DGP.

Wednesday, November 11th is the 4 1/2 week cut off for Quarter 2.  This means that students are half way through the quarter.

Quarter 2 ends - December 18th.

Teens 4 Green Project

How do I correspond professionally?
How do I produce technical writing that follows an organized pattern?

Learning Goals:
Students will follow an organized structure to produce various types of technical writing (website, newsletter, manual, public service announcement). 
Students work for TEENS 4 GREEN in departments (groups) to complete technical writing products around the topic of BEING GREEN.

Today, students were assigned to departments (groups) based on their career objective and resume (handed in last week).  EACH group will work for the next few weeks on completing a product in technical writing.

Letter of Recommendation

Standard:  ELA8W2 Technical Writing
Essential Questions:

How do I produce technical writing that follows an organized pattern?

Learning Goals:
Students will follow an organizational structure to draft and type a recomendation letter. 
Students will interview for TEENS 4 GREEN.

Today students interviewed each other for TEENS 4 GREEN using formatted questions.  They then worked on completing LETTERS of RECOMMENDATION for the same classmate. Download How to write a RECOMMENDATION letter

HOMEWORK
Complete the LETTER of RECOMMENDATION draft.

Cover Letters due

Job cover letters are due along with resumes on Wednesday, 11/4. Students typed resumes IN CLASS and saved them on their numbers.  Many students used a USB drive to transfer their resumes and WORK on them AT HOME.

 
 COVER LETTERS

• Follow format on PowerPointDownload Cover Letters
• Be sure to have a HEADING, INSIDE ADDRESS, SALUTATION, CLOSING
• No contractions (don't, you'll, I'm. etc)
• Do NOT abbreviate the date - spell it out
• Sign your letter in BLUE or BLACK ink
• Use a COLON after the salutation
• NO indenting - BLOCK LEFT only
• PROOFREAD your letter and check spelling, punctuation

Monday, Nov. 2

NO DGP THIS WEEK - I am sending home practice grammar work so students can work on helping verbs, linking verbs, and predicate adjectives/nouns.

Students will complete a resume and cover letter for a job at TEENS 4 GREEN.

We reviewed the PowerPoint from Friday's lesson (Download Cover Letter PowerPoint Lesson.)
Students completed the DRAFT for the COVER LETTER (Download Cover letter IN CLASS ASSIGNMENT)

Today we completed RESUMES and typed COVER LETTERS. We have been working on this since last Thursday and many students were able to HAND IN these two assignments today.

Bring in your typed and completed COVER LETTER on Wednesday, 11/4.
