Research Rough Draft & Outline DUE on Monday

Today students had the ENTIRE class to work on their drafts.

HOMEWORK
Research ROUGH DRAFTS are due on Monday.  Outlines are due on Monday as well. (see 2/25 for sample outlines that students were given in class)
Students can DOWNLOAD outlines from their class to type in their research information.
Drafts/outlines do NOT need to be typed at this point.
Book Points are due on Tuesday, March 10th.

Outlines & Drafts due TOMORROW!

Today students worked the entire period on finishing their FORMAL OUTLINES. On yesterday's BLOG, students can find TEMPLATES on the format and order for their block.
Many students found that they needed to ADD MORE FACTS to complete their OUTLINES.

Wednesday, Feb. 25th

Today we worked on organizing and sorting our NOTE CARDS.
Students sorted their NOTE CARDS in slugs and highlighted headings.
We discussed how to WRITE AN OUTLINE from our NOTE CARDS.

Here are the templates that students should use to form their OUTLINES.  In each TOPIC and SUBTOPIC, they should use their NOTE CARDS to fill in the facts.

Monday, Feb. 23rd

There is NO DOL Warm-up this week..

Today's CLASSWORK
Students read an article, "Insects of the World" in the Reader's Handbook and took notes using several graphic organizers (pages 43, 44, 45, 47).  The assignment was collected at the end of class.

HOMEWORK

Continue taking notes on NOTE CARDS for your research topic using your LAST source.  Even though NOTE CARDS were collected on Friday, 2/20, students are using their LAST source (internet article) to take NOTES.  (40) NOTE CARDS were graded over the weekend.  Students will have the opportunity to add any additional NOTE CARDS to their stacks on Tuesday, 2/24.

Today we discussed how to evaluate websites.  The mini lesson included ways to determine if a website/webpage is crediabe.  We also went onto the COBB VIRTUAL LIBRARY and navigated various online reference sources. Cobb County Virtual Library.

Friday, Feb. 13th

DOL - collected today. If you have NOT handed in your DOL, please do so on Monday.

We tried to complete our SKILLS TUTOR POST Test for Punctuation, but the network was NOT working.
We took more NOTE CARDS in class and many students started taking notes on their 2nd source.

HOMEWORK
1.  Log onto SkillsTutor and take the POST TEST ONLY.  You will see a NEW assignment - be sure to ONLY TAKE the POST TEST.
2.  25 - 30 NOTE CARDS are due on Tuesday.  If you move onto anothers SOURCE, you MUST complete a SOURCE CARD (see Jan 30th BLOG for Source card format). 

Thursday, Feb., 12th

DOL #18 parts of a sentence: prepositional phrase, list adverbs

Today we took more notes in class.  Most students are finishing up their FIRST SOURCE.  Many students used the reference books on the cart in the classroom.
