We did a READING WARM-UP today - students added this to their READING WARM-UP sheet.  We are practicing READING SKILLS this week since there is NO DOL.

We are starting a RESEARCH UNIT. Students received a LETTER explaining the UNIT.

Block 3 - African countries
Block 6 - Diseases

Students MUST submit TOPICS (1st and 2nd choice) for approval

Tuesday, Jan 27th

Today we completed a READING WARM-UP.  Students will keep the warm-up and continue tomorrow.

We are starting a RESEARCH UNIT tomorrow. Students will be going through the RESEARCH PROCESS for the next 5 weeks.

EACH class will get a different category and students can select their own TOPIC

Tuesday, January 20th

Today, we worked on our DOL.  This week's DOL (#16) is a DOL REVIEW. 
Students have (4) review sentences and a series of DOL questions.
HERE is the DOL REVIEW for this week:

Tuesday's DOL - write the type of SENTENCE STRUCTURE FOR EACH SENTENCE (SIMPLE, COMPOUND, COMPLEX, or COMPOUND/COMPLEX)

SKILLS TUTOR Lessons MUST be Completed

By now, students should have completed ALL SKILLS TUTOR lesssons (EXCEPT Post-Test). 

Students have been working on activities/lessons for two weeks.  We have visited the computer lab and students can access SKILLS TUTOR from Awtrey's web page (ANY WHERE).

Students had opportunites to visit our Media Center computers during homeroom, lunch, or even before school.

We will be taking the POST TEST (IN CLASS).  A special POST-TEST will be posted later this week. 

Students can review lessons on the PRACTICE PUNCTUATION UNIT icon on SKILLS TUTOR.

Parent Internet Safety Workshop

Awtrey's PTSA is sponsoring an Internet Safety Workshop this Thursday, 1/15, at 6:30 p.m. in the theater. Jeff Inman, coordinator or Prevention Intervention, will be our guest speaker

Skills Tutor Lessons DUE

Students have been completing SKILLS TUTOR assignments/lessons in the computer lab.
SKILLS TUTOR is set up to provide students with online lessons/activities for our unit on Punctuation. 
SKILLS TUTOR can be found on the Awtrey homepage and students have individual log in/passwords.

Once students took the pre-test last week, it assigned lessons/activities based on their score. Between the lessons/activities, students take QUIZZES to test for MASTERY (these will be quiz grades in class). If the students MASTERED the concept on the pre-test, it does NOT appear on thier assignment list.

FOR ADDITIONAL PRACTICE:  Students can complete ANY lessons/activities for practice - this is set up and called PUNCTUATION UNIT (Re-do/Practice).

TONIGHT:
Students need to complete Lessons 6 and 7 (not the quiz).

Welcome Back!

On Tuesday, we took a PUNCTUATION PRE-TEST (paper) to introduce our PUNCTUATION UNIT. 
On Wednesday, we took our quarterly PRE-TEST.

Today, students started SKILLS TUTOR in the computer lab.  SKILLS TUTOR provides electronic lessons and activities.  I have set up a PUNCTUATION UNIT on SKILLS TUTOR. 
Students took a PRE-TEST on the computer - the PRE-TEST lists lessons/activities that the student NEEDS to LEARN. 


Each lesson/activity teaches the rule for punctuation and gives practice.  After the lessons, students have the chance to take a QUIZ (quiz grades will count as classroom quiz grades).
