Tuesday, Sept. 30th

Today, we continued working in our SHORT STORY support groups.  Each group is writing a short story.  Students are writing individual stories, but can get ideas from their support group. 

Today, we finished our ELEMENTS of LITERATURE charts.  Students began working on their PLOT DIAGRAMS.  We will start drafting our short stories on Wednesday and Thursday.
We will work on the SHORT STORIES until next week. 
The final SHORT STORY will be due on Thursday, Oct. 2nd (blue or black ink).  Students were given the guidelines for completing their short stories.

HOMEWORK for TODAY
Students have to complete "Focus on Setting" and "Focus on Plot".  It is a handout.

This Week DOL # 7 REVIEW, Sept. 29-Oct.3

This week, students will have a DOL #7 REVIEW.  The review will include (4) sentences.  EACH day, students will answer several questions about the sentences.
Here are the (4) sentences for THIS WEEK'S DOL:
1.  We were hungry after lunch.
2.  Her parents appeared angry.
3.  Oliver might have been late, but his mother set the alarm.
4.  Even though the students are good readers, the teacher gives homework.
Monday - find the verb (v) and subject (s) in EACH SENTENCE.
Tuesday - type of sentence
Wednesday - prepositional phrase, predicate adjectives, pronoun and antecedent
Thursday  - rewrite the sentences and revise.
Friday - DOL #7 QUIZ (this is the last quiz of the quarter)

4 1/2 Week Progress Reports GO HOME!

Students will be bringing home their 4 1/2 week PROGRESS REPORTS.  These grades represent the first half of the quarter.   

Students receiving less than a C (below 74%) in a class, received a PRINT OUT from that teacher.  The print outs were stapled to the PROGRESS REPORT.

PLEASE NOTE:  We have also included a student CONDUCT GRADE.  This grade now includes student work completion, behavior, and participation.  Student conduct is monitored daily in all classes and is an important part of learning life skills.

Please return the PROGRESS REPORT as soon as possible. Many teachers are also requiring students to return the individual print outs (if applicable).
