DOL #20 The Warriors were very excited about the play-off game, but needed more time to prepare for the game
Tuesday's DOL - list the PARTS OF SPEECH

Today, we sorted NOTE CARDS and determined which headings needed additional information.  Students had at least 20 minutes to continue note taking in class.

HOMEWORK
1.  Students MUST continue NOTE TAKING at home.  GOAL: They are eventually writing a 2 page typed research paper on their topic.  That means they need enough information on the note cards to complete a paper. REMINDER:  EACH note card needs a heading at the TOP and the source it came from and page on the BOTTOM.
20 NOTE CARDS DUE WED., 2/27

2.  Define the FIRST (7) vocabulary words on the RESEARCH VOCAB sheet.Download research_vocabulary.doc

DOL #20

Today, I collected their NOTE CARDS and SOURCE CARDS.  They were graded on the amount completed, but I was able to write some notes to students giving them feedback on the format.  I passed back their graded note/source cards (except block 6).  Please go over their note cards, as some students are still behind in the note taking process.

HOMEWORK
20 NOTE CARDS are due by Wednesday, Feb 27th and students should have 5 SOURCE CARDS

NO DOL NO SPELLING

OOPS!

There was no DOL this week due to the shortened week.  Also, there were no spelling words given.

On Monday, students will get a list of RESEARCH VOCABULARY for this unit that they will need to define.

Where are we?

MY GOAL

Students should have at least (10) NOTECARDS from at least (4) SOURCES by now!

The reality is that most students have 2-13 NOTECARDS and 2-6 SOURCE CARDS.
We are walking students through the RESEARCH PROCESS and showing them how to LOCATE SOURCES, SITE SOURCES, TAKE NOTES and make NOTECARDS.

Students NEED TO complete their notecards at home.

TODAY we went to the Dell Lab and students were able to print Internet articles on their topics.  Earlier this week, I let students check out books on their topics from the Media Center.

Many students are taking advantage of the resources here at Awtrey and even coming in to school at 8:15AM to use the Media Center or visit Ms. Bailey for help.

WHAT'S NEXT?......
Students need 15-20 NOTECARDS by the middle of next week.
We will then sort the cards and create outlines for our research papers.

Introduction to Research - Mon/Tues, Feb 11/12

Introduction to research process

On Friday, the homework was for students to fill out their TOPIC SLIP and select a topic of choice.  EACH block was issued a different category, and students can select a topic within the category.

BLOCK 2 - famous people (no athletes unless deceased; no entertainers).
BLOCK 3 - historical events/historical documents
BLOCK 6 - inventions
BLOCK 7 - landmarks/monuments

Today, we went over the format for SOURCE CARDS.
