HOMOPHONE Test

Friday is the HOMOPHONE TEST.

It is NOT a traditional spelling test.  Students were given (20) spelling/vocabulary words, and have been adding homophones to them for the past week.  They were instructed to add words from homework sheet 19, 20/ 21 and Ex. 24, 25 from the Grammar textbook.
THIS will be their STUDY GUIDE.

Here is a short list of other HOMOGRAPHS that students can also review:
volume
- sound level, # of books in a set
ring - sound of bell; jewelry for finger
scale - outside of a fish; to climb; a tool for measurement
record - music albums; official papers
mind - obey: think about: brain: take care of
quarter - 1/2; 25cents; a living area/room/space

Short Story, "The Diamond Necklace"

This week's DOL sentence
Their mother won a medal for her creative hospital website, but donated it to the patients because they had helped her with her study.

Wed. DOL   Type of sentence, independent clause, dependent clause, complete subject, compound predicate, list the pronouns and antecedents.

Short Story, "Tell Tale Heart"

This week's DOL

On Tuesday, we worked on a graphic organizer for "The Tell Tale Heart" and completed a POP QUIZ.  Students used time in class to work on their HOMOPHONE LIST for Friday's test.

Today.......Monday, October 22nd, students will receive REPORT CARDS for Quarter 1. They will SIGN OUT the report cards and need to return them signed ASAP.

Memory devices are tricks we use to spell and remember homophones.

Example:  heard – if you cross out the H and D, you have EAR –

Friday, Oct. 12th

On Friday we took our spelling test and students handed in their weekly DOL(#8).

We also took a POP QUIZ on the short story, "Rikki-tikki-tavi".  Students were allowed to use their notes, the story, and their completed plot diagram that was handed back.  The quiz included 20 multiple choice questions and for one question, students had to reproduce their plot diagram (this was no problem for the students that had completed it for homework last week).

SHORT STORIES due on Monday, Oct. 15th!
We have been working ALL WEEK on short stories.  Students received their writing assignment on Friday, Oct. 5th and worked on it EVERYDAY from Oct. 8-12. 
Please look over the requirements.  The short stories should be typed-double-spaced OR hand-written in INK (except for the mini book group).
