Compound Sentences/Complex Sentences

DOL - List parts of speech for each word

CLASS NOTES
Compound Sentences - two or more independent clauses
Ex.  Students are going to Festival, and they will be eating at Stevie B's.

Compound sentences can also be written WITHOUT the comma and conjunction and REPLACED with a semicolon (;)
Ex.  Students are going to Festival; they will be eating at Stevie B's.

Complex Sentences - one independent clause and one subordinate clause
Ex.  Whenever I go to New York, I always buy a pair of shoes from the Village.

Rewrite the sentence replacing all the adverbs with new adverbs.

Classwork
Today, we reviewed the use of ADVERBS.
Students had to underline the adverbs in the following sentences:

Sharks swim fast in the blue sea.
The animals are always quiet.
The only eat very early in the morning.

Then students had to write their own sentences using adverbs based on the three rules.
This was collected for a class grade

HOMEWORK
1.  Complete the practice CRCT test (Bailey10Grammar) using the 10-digit id that you used last week and kept in a safe place - password: education

2.  Finish workbook pages 31 and 32
3.  Spelling - look up spelling words parts of speech. For each spelling word that is an ADVERB, write a sentence.
Example:  accidentally -He accidentally dropped the egg on the floor.

Extra Credit

There have been TWO opportunities for extra credit this week:

On the Research Test, students could earn an additional (10) points for attaching their Study Guide.

Students can earn additional credit for submitting a HARD COPY of their Research summary with the STUDENT SELF-REFLECTION.  Self-Reflections were completed in class yesterday and today.

TODAY, we went to the Dell Lab and completed an ONLINE CRCT Practice Test.
