Outsiders We are working on a new unit, RESPONSE TO LITERATURE.  We will be reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.  While reading the novel, we will focus on:

- the elements of fiction
- character analysis
- plot sequence

Today, we previewed The Outsiders and used a previewing checklist to read the summary, about the author, book reviews by other authors, and an excerpt from the book.

Students will be keeping an OUTSIDERS PORTFOLIO which will contain sheets, activities, and exercises on the various elements of fiction.  They need a pocket folder for the packet I will be giving them this week.

Persuasive Speeches

Today students handed in OUTLINES that were due and I went over them to give students suggestions for their SPEECHES/ESSAYS.  Many students are NOT getting IT and need more time.  Please look over your son/daughter's OUTLINE to make sure it makes sense.  They need to have (3) supporting reasons that support their VIEWPOINT/OPINION and examples for each.

The OUTLINE needs to be DRAFTED into a ROUGH DRAFT TONIGHT!

Rough Drafts are due TOMORROW!
Final ESSAYS and SPEECHES are NOW DUE

Mon., 11/20 and Tues., 11/21.

If your child will be absent either day, they need to present on Tues., 11/28 (I may be out on the 27th).
Speeches should be 3-5 minutes and students MUST be convincing.
