Today I collected their rough drafts of their COMPARE and CONTRAST essays.  We peer edited our papers and focused on content and organization.  Students discussed the components of a good essay and we went over the guidelines.

Spelling Test

Here are the spelling words (given on March 13th) for this Friday's spelling test.

March 21st & 22nd

On Tuesday, March 21st (substitute), students worked on a comparison and contrast article in Outbreak Magazine and completed a graphic organizer on the article.

Students reviewed chapters 1 & 2 in Where the Lilies Bloom and answered comprehension questions.

HOMEWORK - Tues., 3/21  Workbook pages 183-188

On Wednesday, March 22nd students completed a CAPITALIZATION practice for this Friday's test, then worked on their outlines for their COMPARISON and CONTRAST essay.

Comparing and Contrasting

Today:

Warm Up - make capitalization corrections (1-13) - overhead

Classwork
1.  Students worked in pairs on a compare/contrast activity to complete a Venn diagram and a compare/contrast chart on TWO SETS in class.
2.  Students reread "Bat Attacks" and completed a Venn diagram on the differences between wood and aluminum bats.

HOMEWORK:
Workbook - 179-182 Capitalization
Think about a topic for your expository essay and write a topic sentence.

BOOK POINTS

Book Points WILL NOT appear on Quarter 3 marking period.  Students will receive a note sometime this week outlining the NUMBER OF BOOK POINTS earned and the number of roll over points remaining. 

AT this TIME, students SHOULD HAVE earned 18 BOOK POINTS.  The remaining 7 BOOK POINTS should be earned during Quarter 4.   

Quarter Ending

Quarter 3 has ended and REPORT CARDS will be sent home on March 27th.  I am printing out a grade sheet for each student tomorrow. If students have work in the "no name" box they can submit it at that time. 

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED unless prior arrangements have been made due to absences.
The print out is just so that students know what grade will be on the QUARTER 3 REPORT CARD.

Warm Up - Students used their Writer's Notebook for entry.
Entry:  Do you have a "junk" drawer in your home?  List (10) items that can be found in the kitchen drawer or "junk" drawer in your home.

Classwork
1.  Using Grammar text, page 156, students completed the "Cubing" activity for (2) of the items in their drawers. Students used the steps #1-6 and completed questions on BOTH items.
2.  WORKBOOK 175-178
3.  Students had the remainder of the block to COMPLETE any INCOMPLETE work from this week.  ALL completed classwork is due FRIDAY, 3/17 and any assignments not handed in will result in a zero.

HOMEWORK:   Complete any classwork from this week that needs to be handed in tomorrow! (except Literature story, "Bat Attacks")  Check yesterday's BLOG for assignments.
