Book Points

The quarter is coming to an end and students are responsible for handing in (6) more book points.  At the end of this quarter, students should have (12) BOOK POINTS. 

Students will get the following credit (AUTOMATICALLY):
1 Point (150 pages) for SOCIAL STUDIES
1 Point (150 pages) for SCIENCE
1 Point (156 pages) for THE OUTSIDERS
They DO NOT need to complete a Reading Review Sheet for any of these!

The Outsiders - Movie

On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 20th and 21st, we will be watching The Outsiders in Language Arts.  On Wednesday, 12/20 we will complete a Venn diagram comparing the movie to the novel.

Update on Tuesday, 12/13

Today we finished the book, The Outsiders.  Students received their last two assignments for their Outsiders NOTEBOOK.  They were given a Poem Analysis and another Quote Sheet.  Outsiders NOTEBOOKS are due THIS FRIDAY, Dec. 15th.

Outsiders Notebook Assignments
While students are reading the novel they are completing assignments on character analysis, development, summaries, and plot.  ALL Outsiders work MUST BE KEPT and submitted at the end of the novel (PROJECT GRADE). 

5 Sheets on The Outsiders

Classwork: 
In the Reader's Handbook we read about the elements of fiction (point of view, characters, plot, setting, theme, and style).  The students got a FICTION ORGANIZER and completed the elements based on The Outsiders.  Then, they worked on a DOUBLE JOURNAL QUOTE sheet and responded to (2) quotes from the text.  Students need to copy the quotes on their sheet and write their thoughts or feelings.

Quote:  "I'll bet you think the Socs have it made....the rich kids, West-side Socs..we have troubles you've never even heard of...Things are rough all over."
Quote:  "Five Socs were coming straight at us, and from the way they were staggering I figured they were reeling pickled...Johnny was scared to death....He was as white as a ghost and his eyes were wild looking, like the eye of an animal in a trap."

Homework:
1.  Read chapter 5 in The Outsiders
2.  Complete Summary Notes, Character Analysis, Slang Sheet, Double Journal, Fiction Organizer

Summary Notes - should be brief
Character Analysis - this was done in class; actions may NOT appear for all characters
Slang Dictionary - see attached list; add to sheet with page and today's slang
Double Journal (Quotes) - Copy quotes and write thoughts or feelings.
Fiction Organizer - Complete all parts EXCEPT Style
Students worked on several of the sheets yesterday and had 45 minutes to work on them today.....
