The fairy tale groups went well today.
Job well done! Tomorrow is the last day of our activity. Today we talked about peer group grading. Each group member will use a rubric to grade their groupmates (ideas, participation, cooperation, and effort). We talked about being honest...
HOMEWORK: Complete homophone packet
Slow and steady wins the race! It took quite a while for students to complete their story boards on the fairy tales. They now understand that the (8) scenes from their story boards will be the illustrations for their Twisted Fairy Tale. The illustrations will be drawn on a STORY WHEEL and presented to the rest of the class.....There was some confusion about the task of changing the point of view. Many students thought that the point of view was the narrator's third person account of the story.....Glad that was cleared up! Some groups moved slower than others. For the most part, I tried to keep them focused and many group members simply took charge and divided the tasks - Good Job LEADERS!

Today most of the students completed their WRITING ASSESSMENT.
Tomorrow is the last day of early release and Parent Teacher conferences are almost done. If you have not gotten a conference form, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. It was great meeting so many parents -thanks for being on time!
Fairy Tales
The groups will meet tomorrow to begin planning their comic/story board (pre-writing) of their twisted tales. We will be working on them for the next couple of days. We are also beginning a persuasive writing unit.....Here is a copy of the story we are reading tomorrow for your reading pleasure - ENJOY!

Writing Assessment
We are taking a 2-Day (in class) Writing Assessment. Each quarter we assess the writing of our students in order to improve instruction. The assessment includes a writing prompt and students must plan, draft, revise, edit, and rewrite their final copy. It is designed very much like the 8th Grade Georgia Writing Test.

I asked for Fairy Tales and boy, did I get them! We will be writing TWISTED FAIRY TALES in class on Friday and into next week. Each group will select a fairy tale, read it, then rewrite the story changing the point of view. An in class example will be given using the story, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. This book tells the story of the three little pigs from the wolf's point of view who believes that he was really minding his own business.

NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!
Many of you have been wondering about homework. Because of early release and the writing assessment, there was no homework given this week. Students do however, need to STUDY FOR THE SPELLING TEST which is on FRIDAY, Oct. 21st.

Pronoun Test
Today we finished our Pronoun & Noun Test. The test was (50) questions of multiple choice, fill in and short answer. Students were given an extra credit opportunity (5 points) on Friday to bring in the signed/completed STUDY GUIDE. Most students did not take advantage of the chance to earn some extra points.
