End of Persuasive Unit

For the past several weeks, we have been working on a persuasive essay in class.  Students revised and edited their papers yesterday and worked on adding an opposing viewpoint.

Book Points Due

Book Points for Quarter 2 are due next Wednesday, Dec. 16th!

Students need (6) book points for this quarter.
They can complete BOOK POINTS on fiction, non fiction books, textbooks, short stories, and poems.

Week - Dec. 7 - Dec. 11

Standard:  ELA8W2, ELA8W
Learning Goals: 
Students will analyze and review student writing samples and revise their responses from writing prompt #1.
Students will analyze and revise their perusasive essay (Friday, Dec. 4th).

MONDAY
1.  DGP - parts of speech
2.  Lesson:  How do I respond to a writng prompt.  We went through the steps on how to read and understand a writing prompt.
3.  Students handed in their persuasive essay drafts (assignment started IN CLASS on Friday)

TUESDAY
1.  DGP - sentence parts
2.  Lesson:  We looked at student samples of the writing prompt.  We reread our responses for the same prompt and made revisions and took notes on what we wanted to change (support, examples, details, introduction, conclusion).
HOMEWORK
Literary Persuasive Reading assignment (worksheet 119/122) - due Thursday, Dec. 10th

WEDNESDAY
1.  DGP - phrases and clauses
2.  Lesson:  Teacher models a sample persuasive essay on WRITE SMART program.

THURSDAY
1.  DGP - diagram sentence
2.  Lesson: Students will spend Thursday and Friday revising and editing their PERSUASIVE ESSAYS.

FRIDAY
1.  DGP #13 Quiz
2.  Lesson:  Students will complete revising and editing their PERSUASIVE ESSAYS.

We discussed the viewpoint and the author's support/details. 

Friday, 12/4
DGP Pop Quiz
Students will complete activity on "Too Much TV" then work on drafting their PERSUASIVE ESSAY.

Progress Reports OUT

Students were issued 4 1/2 week PROGRESS REPORTS today.  Students earning a D or F in a class also received a PRINT OUT.

Progress Reports need to be signed and returned by Friday, Nov. 20!

Essential Questions:
How do I create a document with text and images while following an organized structure?

Learning Goals:
Students will follow an organized structure to produce various types of technical writing (website, newsletter, manual, public service announcement). 
Students work for TEENS 4 GREEN in departments (groups) to complete technical writing products around the topic of BEING GREEN.

All of the groups are working hard to get their assignments done by Friday, 11/20.
NO HOMEWORK has been given this week and there is NO DGP.
